There is a bronze alloy which applications have grown significantly during last decade, and that is ALUMINUM BRONZE.
Some sectors, like Energy, Mining and mainly those where working conditions are very aggresive and strict, find ALUMINUM BRONZE highly appropriate due to its excelent performance against wear and chemical/oxidizing agents like, for example, seawater.
It has a high yield Rp0,2 and tensile strength Rm (typical values used to be 3800 kg/cm2 and 7000 kg/cm2, respectively). If we also consider its elongation (A>13%), this family of alloys are highly recommended for working under fluctuating loads and presence of fatigue.
What working temperature is acceptable for Aluminum Bronze alloys?
If ALUMINUM BRONZE alloys are appropriate to work under, let’s say, “aggressive” conditions, then we must know that temperature shall be a critical variable, because their mechanical characteristics decrease geometrically when temperature goes up.

We can set the suitable working temperature between 0-60 ºC, understanding that this must be a stable working range of the bronze item. The item can also briefly work under higher temperature (60-120 ºC), but we are just talking about seconds. Otherwise, its mechanical properties will suddenly fall down and we will have undesirable deformations of the item or even its mechanical collapse.
With right lubrication, the best alliance…
Like other materials, when ALUMINUM BRONZE works within a mechanical set, we need a good lubrication design that makes easier its performance, because it keeps the temperature under control. In this case, the much more the better…
